Determining fit between counselor and client is important when engaging in counseling services online. Helpful information you might share when initiating contact would include what you would like to process in counseling & how your symptoms seem to be presenting for you both internally in regards to your feelings and/or externally in your behaviors at this time.
Also you may indicate if you are prescribed any psychotropics (i.e. medications used to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, mood instability) as this will assist in my understanding of what steps you are already taking to attend to your mental health needs.
We can also look to schedule a consultation call. A consultation call is a scheduled, free of charge, 10-15 minute "greeting" conversation in which we will review what areas you are looking to address in therapy, determine if services would be a good fit, assess if the online platform would be comfortable & review any general considerations of engaging in counseling online. No diagnosis will be determined during this call.
At your initial/intake session (60 minutes) we will review all your intake paperwork, including the client history and consent forms you will have completed through the client portal prior to session.
We will also review any questions you may have about the therapeutic process as well as begin identifying your treatment goals.
Individual sessions will be approximately 50-60 minutes in length. The frequency of sessions will vary based on each client's individual mental health needs. Typically at the beginning of treatment sessions are scheduled on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Once established, many clients prefer to keep 'standing' appointment times.
When utilizing insurance for treatment it is important that you understand you are fully responsible for any amount due that your insurance fails to pay at any time throughout your treatment.
